Dental Implants Aftercare
Having a dental implant can improve your smile, your confidence, and your ability to chew. Implant dentistry is quite common today, but you might still have some questions for your dental implants specialist. One of the most pressing of those questions is likely what type of dental implants aftercare you will need to do to keep the implant safe and your mouth on the mend. Fortunately, it turns out that caring for the implant is quite simple, and we will cover what you need to know right here. If you have further questions, you can always ask your Amarillo dentist.
Once you first receive the implant, you should not eat anything until the local anesthetic has worn off, and you should only have cold drinks. For the entire first day, avoid hot food and drink and do not disturb the area with your fingers or probe it with your tongue. In addition, do not do anything strenuous for the first 48 hours. You may note some swelling, and a small bit of pain, which can be cared for with over the counter painkillers. If you have any issues, be sure to let the dentists know right away.
Make sure you are keeping your mouth as clean as possible, as well. You can brush your teeth while avoiding the surgical site for the first few days. After that, you can start brushing gently, and eventually brush as normal. You can also rinse out your mouth with hot water and salt after the first day. Keep food away from the area as it heals, as well. It is also advised that you do not smoke during this time. Once it is fully healed, you can treat it as your normal teeth.
